"The Bluest Sky" (for Toni Morrison)

It was raining in Helsinki today, and I had to do something with all the sadness. So I wrote a song for Toni Morrison.

"The Bluest Sky"

Finding it hard to remain human
Don’t know where to go, what to give
I search for the strength in your words
To write the story I want to live

Even the heavens of Helsinki cry your name today
For the bluest sky has turned to grey

Every day another Dumas
It’s an uphill climb
Your voice told us there’s still hope
And to believe in the future of time

Fran has lost her mother, we all have lost another
Who could tell our story true
Our Beloved, wonderful you

Even the heavens of Helsinki cry your name today
For the bluest sky has turned to grey

Can you tell me, can somebody tell me, please,
Why when I’m standing on the shoulders of giants
I feel weak in the knees?

But I refuse to be a victim
Prey to the net of despair
I’d rather hold up my neck
And surrender to the air

You’ll go down like a redwood
Forever free of the gaze
I’ll give up all that weighs me down
And try to fly my way out of this maze

Even the heavens of Helsinki cry your name today
For the bluest sky has turned to grey
Even the heavens of Helsinki cry your name today
For the bluest sky has turned to grey
